More stoves and a dip!

Our stove teams put in another 39 stoves on Tuesday for the villagers of Rancho Palmeras. So that’s 78 total now with only another 38 to go! I suspect we will be able to finish up on Wednesday.

The team I’m on had a special helper, an older villager who met us in the morning and just started volunteering. He stayed with us throughout the day. We even installed a stove in his home.

A special hat tip to the kitchen crew of Mimi, Emelda and Elena who have risen early and stayed up late throughout our time in the village to prepare delicious meals, wash dishes and even hand washed our clothes! We are working hard in some hot conditions but none of us feel like we are especially roughing it. Example: tasty fried chicken, fresh corn on the cob and coleslaw for lunch. In fact every meal is a treat.

Elena, Mimi and Emelda hard at work.

After working in the 94 degree heat today a few of us decided to head down to the nearby Ixcan river to cool off. Marco and me, along with Marco’s son Alan and a couple of our staff jumped in the flowing current. What a nice way to cool down!

Brians’ takes a dip n the Ixcan river to help beat the heat.

Here are a few more photos from our day.
