A hot day for stove installation in Esperancita

Well, our stove installation team did get a 5 a.m. start as they made the nearly three-hour drive to the Guatemalan village of Esperancita Yulmacap.

Here are a few shots Marco took as they made their ascent from Santa Cruz Barillas:

Oh, and we received a pretty amazing video this morning from Rumaldo on the Hands for Peacemaking staff. It needs to be edited a little for length before we post, but to give you an idea of the driving conditions just to get there here are some screen shots from it. Would you cross that bridge over the Ixcan River? Those trucks are heavy too!

As described in an earlier post, the crew of 10 Hands for Peacemaking staff broke into four stove installation teams and were joined by six village leaders.

It was a hot day – Marco thinks up to 95 degrees F at times – but the crew managed to install 37 of the 115 stoves in Esperancita homes, plus another 37 water filters. Not a bad day’s work! He says it rained a little too as the stove installation work was winding down for the day.

Here are some of the images Marco sent from the village:

Thanks again for all of your support for this project! Marco again reiterated how grateful the villagers are to have their new stoves from Marine View and other donors to the Old Goat Challenge.
